Scam Alert: Text Messages
The Court will NEVER text you for ANY reason.
We are aware of ongoing scam text messages claiming to be from agencies such as the Washington Department of Licensing, Department of Motor Vehicles, and FastPass toll services. Please note: these messages are not from the Selah Court. They typically reference existing cases or outstanding balances.
- DO NOT click on any links or make payments through these text messages.
- DO NOT submit emergency payments based on text messages—refunds may not be possible, and online convenience fees are non-refundable.
Legitimate notices regarding outstanding balances or potential license suspensions may be sent by mail from the Selah Court Clerk or the Department of Licensing. These mailed notices are considered valid at this time.
Due to the high volume and frequency of this scam, we ask that you report suspicious messages by emailing Danae Merritt with the following information:
- Your full name
- Date of birth
- Case number (if known)
- A copy or summary of the text message received
If you have received a new ticket and need to make a payment, please use one of the following secure options:
- Online via our official website (you will need your case number)
- Mail to City Hall, ATTN: Danae Merritt, 115 West Naches Avenue, Selah, WA 98942
- Drop off cash or check in the Court Clerk's drop box
Scam Alert: Court Calls
The Selah Municipal Court has been advised that court customers are receiving calls from someone claiming to be a deputy or other law enforcement officers and stating that the customer has missed a court date and has a pending warrant. The caller is using the real names of Judges and has somehow acquired the addresses of the court customers. The caller is telling the court customers that they can stop the warrant if the customer pays money to the caller.
Please be advised that the Selah Municipal Court does not issue "pending" warrants and none of the courts managed by Yakima County District Court (Union Gap, Mabton, Moxee, Tieton, Grandview, or Yakima County) would ever call a court customer and ask for money to stop a warrant from issuing.
If you receive a call like this, disconnect the call immediately. If you want to verify the status of your case or have any questions, please email the Selah Municipal Court Clerk, Danae Merritt.
Thank you,
Danae Merritt, Selah Municipal Court Administrator
